The past few days I've been the sickest I have been in many years. I spent nearly the entirety of Monday and Tuesday curled up in bed, unable to really do anything. I read some books (HP5, HP6, HP7) and slept.

We believe (based on flu trends from the CDC and symptoms) that I was the lucky recipient of the Swine Flu (H1N1). Given I did not seek treatment or a diagnosis, this is potentially wrong, but it seems correct. The CDC tracks reported cases of flu and 99% of them right now are H1N1 -- the seasonal flu hasn't really started yet.

Sunday: started feeling sick, coughing a little, runny nose.

Monday: coughing a lot, runny nose, sore throat, fever (101.7 high), loss of appetite, headache. Realized I was sick with something out of the ordinary and was in bed from about 11AM on.

Tuesday: fever up to 103.5, vomited, couldn't stand without getting dizzy, fatigue, etc. Talked to Nicole and my mom, got some advice on fever reduction. Maxed out my tylenol to 1000mg, took a bath, used a cold compress (when I felt hot), many blankets when I felt cold, managed my fever down to 102.5 or so.

Wednesday (today): still coughing, fever this morning at 100.5, this afternoon it seems gone (98.9-99.3), runny nose is back in full force (it had abated some Tuesday). Feeling loads better, was able to spend an hour downstairs catching up on email and such, but I am exhausted still so I'm back upstairs in bed on the laptop.

Here's hoping that this ends soon. I have a wedding to attend Friday... I will only go if the fever stays gone and the coughing abates. Last thing I want is to spread this. I expect Janine will get it (but I hope not) and I hope that by keeping myself in my room upstairs (most of the time) nobody else in the house will get it.

Anyway. It's been unpleasant.

I noticed when my fever was really high that I just felt ... terrible. I don't know how else to describe it. I would fumble when I picked up the thermometer, as if my dexterity just wasn't very good, my reflexes were slowed, and my brain was busy doing other things. It was really strange.

Going to lie down now, maybe sleep some more. Maybe watch some Futurama.

I was in bed for three weeks in October with what we think was H1N1 -- do yourself a favor and don't try to get back to your usual too soon. I couldn't walk as far as the kitchen for a solid week in the middle there.

At least I got the kiddos vaccinated, and C's immune system is sufficiently good that he felt like he had a cold for 10 days and not much worse, but...this flu is really srs bznss. Take it as such.

Honestly, I would suggest both of you skip the wedding. Even if you have no fever for 24 hours (which seems to be the suggestion for kids going back to school), there's no guarantee Janine isn't contagious. It'll suck, but I'm sure the couple will understand and be happy you're not exposing the other guests.

So glad you are feeling better!

Monday: coughing a lot, runny nose, sore throat, fever (101.7 high), loss of appetite, headache.

That's pretty close to where the boy is now. I am not looking forward to the rest, if he proceeds the same way...

And please stay away from the wedding if you can. The flu takes a large toll on the body for several days up to weeks afterwards. And you had a bad case (103.5 is where I would call an ambulance...). Getting rest is your duty now :) Futurame sounds good.

i agree you should skip the wedding - even janine should. you can carry the virus for a while before you actually show symptoms.

man alive. it sounds sucky. it hasn't hit our household yet. i hope you feel better soon. ♥

*hugs* (from a distance)

Take care of yourself. Overtaxing is a sure way to slow recovery, so ... get more books? Start HP again? Read Twilight?
